The New Stereotype

It is 2009, labels are still attempting to define who you are, and people are still placing their confidence in these classifications. The most recent and amusing labels might be for the more tech savvy person, however, anyone who owns a computer will be willing to jump on the bandwagon and choose a stereotype. There are now two types of people in this country: Mac people and PC people. Yes, we all know the stereotypes and people are willing to conform to them.

The guy you see with the casual sports jacket and jeans, lounging in a comfortable chair at a Starbucks while having his sleek Macbook at hand, makes any regular Macbook user look like the ultimate definition of cool. Much unlike the PC user, who wears a stiff suit and has nothing but complaints about his work and computer, making him appear slightly downcast. It would make anyone reach out for a brand new “cool” computer rather than a dingy one that never works properly.

At least this is what Apple commercials show. Sure, Macs allow you to video chat, listen to music on the ever so convenient itunes, and much more, but what about the great things PC has to offer?

The new Windows commercials are fighting back at this mockery which Apple is so willing to pursue. The PC commercials show the common everyday person, just like you and me. The most recent one that has aired on television says that PC has been made into a Stereotype. That, yes, some people wear glasses just like the man portraying a PC in the Apple commercials, and some do not. Some people wear jeans while others wear suits, some study law while others challenge the law, and etcetera. Other similar commercials also show that kids as young as four and a half years old are able to use PCs, which is the one thing Apple has failed to support in their attack on Bill Gates and his PC creation.

It is hard to say which is the best, mainly because with more than 300 million people in this country, we all have different opinions and preferences. But in the end, when all media war comes to a halt, still... nothing changes. It only comes down to one thing. Are you a Mac or a PC?
