Teenage Immorality

“Sex, drugs, and rock-and-roll,” the cliché line, is initially what any rebellious high school student dreams of pursuing if there were no possibility of consequences. People waste their teen years acting out, being immoral, and then hypocritically going to church the very next day. Every teenager, whether they are willing to admit it or not, believe that they are somewhat infinite. No, not you! Nothing could ever go wrong in your wonderfully corrupted world.

MTV and other such television channels can take partial credit in the corruption of the youth in America. Sexual, and many times, over the top scenes from shows and movies are not helping the situation at hand. People believe that if their favorite actors are participating in immoral and obscene acts, then it is the cool and exciting thing to do! Despite the fact that our parents, schools, and other such authority figures tell us blatantly what the right thing to do is, we still disregard what is said.

It is not just what today’s youth choose to watch on television; it is also the filth we hear on the radio that fills our ears and corrupts the minds of the young and naïve. Songs that deal with drugs and alcohol make it all out to be a dandy time! One song in particular says, “I'ma pill popper so I'ma keep poppin' em / Gimme 20 Xanax and I'ma start droppin' em”. If these lyrics don’t scream immoral, I don’t know what does. Children who are even in grade school are listening to garbage like this every single day. Radio stations do not care if the younger adolescent listeners take what is said and use it in everyday life. The lyrics are inappropriate and what is projected from the artists mouths’ should not be put on the air.

How can parents and other superior figures in a child’s life stand by and let them watch, listen to, and imitate such impure actions? It’s simple really. Kids aren’t as family oriented as they used to be. Parents may not know what their child is doing online or what kind of music they are listening to. You can’t blame a child for such reckless decisions because kids need someone to learn from and look up to. How are they to know right from wrong or what kind of consequences lay ahead if they are not taught from an early age? Of course there will always be the few who rebel despite the cautions and warnings, however, pregnancies, drug abuse, consumption of alcohol, and many other such illegal doings, are more likely to be prevented if people are taught from a younger age.

The New Stereotype

It is 2009, labels are still attempting to define who you are, and people are still placing their confidence in these classifications. The most recent and amusing labels might be for the more tech savvy person, however, anyone who owns a computer will be willing to jump on the bandwagon and choose a stereotype. There are now two types of people in this country: Mac people and PC people. Yes, we all know the stereotypes and people are willing to conform to them.

The guy you see with the casual sports jacket and jeans, lounging in a comfortable chair at a Starbucks while having his sleek Macbook at hand, makes any regular Macbook user look like the ultimate definition of cool. Much unlike the PC user, who wears a stiff suit and has nothing but complaints about his work and computer, making him appear slightly downcast. It would make anyone reach out for a brand new “cool” computer rather than a dingy one that never works properly.

At least this is what Apple commercials show. Sure, Macs allow you to video chat, listen to music on the ever so convenient itunes, and much more, but what about the great things PC has to offer?

The new Windows commercials are fighting back at this mockery which Apple is so willing to pursue. The PC commercials show the common everyday person, just like you and me. The most recent one that has aired on television says that PC has been made into a Stereotype. That, yes, some people wear glasses just like the man portraying a PC in the Apple commercials, and some do not. Some people wear jeans while others wear suits, some study law while others challenge the law, and etcetera. Other similar commercials also show that kids as young as four and a half years old are able to use PCs, which is the one thing Apple has failed to support in their attack on Bill Gates and his PC creation.

It is hard to say which is the best, mainly because with more than 300 million people in this country, we all have different opinions and preferences. But in the end, when all media war comes to a halt, still... nothing changes. It only comes down to one thing. Are you a Mac or a PC?

Who's to Blame?

Who are we to blame for Earth’s mishaps? Is it a human’s fault for all world tragedies? Everyone always seems to be pointing fingers at one another when calamity occurs. For instance, a tsunami leaves nothing but devastation and lost hopes in its path for the survivors but before anyone has time to mourn over their losses, humanity finds someone who can be considered blameworthy.

Al Gore, along with many others, feel that the human race is responsible for all natural tragedies. Our pollution is not the reason. They say floods, tornadoes and hurricanes are all consequences of global warming. It is quite humorous that when the sun is shining and the heat is rising in an unlikely place, the world goes into upheaval pronouncing the news that our world is coming to an end because of global warming! I find it even more comical that abruptly when snow begins to fall and temperatures drop, mayhem begins once more with inhabitants crying out and saying it’s so cold, it might be the next ice age. MAKE UP YOUR MIND!

Those who have taken their time to research and study will come to the conclusion that the Earth's climate is largely affected by how much heat is stored in the atmosphere and anything that affects the storage of heat can cause the climate of the Earth to change. It is not just man-made pollution that can cause climate change. Changes in the amount of greenhouse gases in the air have occurred naturally during the history of the Earth, leading to climate changes.

It is not anyone’s fault for climate change and just because it’s several degrees lower or higher than what you may be accustom to, does not mean it is the end of the world as we know it. The only tragedies we can blame ourselves for is man-made destruction.

On a community forum I came across on the internet, someone asked the question “Are we ruining our world with technology?? Why can’t we just use our technology for good instead of bad?” Sorry Pllum, but stupid question. This is simply because there is no universal good and evil. What one person believes to be good, another may believe to be bad and vice versa. Member, Pllum, also said “Well I think one BAD for a lot of people is those highly radioactive atomic bombs…They KILL us.” Someone came up with a response saying, “…and killing people is bad because?” This is my point. Not everyone will agree between what is good and evil, just like people may not agree that world tragedies are our fault.

The people in our world will always find someone to blame. Without culpability, random but natural occurrences would fail to make sense to them. People find comfort in responsibility. If no one is accountable for misfortunes, it leaves them feeling vulnerable and not at all in control. But who are we to blame for earths mishaps? The answer is no one, but I guess it is your choice to decide.
